For any business initiative, not only if it belongs to an innovative sector, the Business Plan is an essential management tool, a programmatic document, strategic and analytical by many different purposes:

  • Providing strategic guidance, a list of steps that will be trodden and goals you expect to achieve. Surfing aimlessly and without a course can be highly counterproductive, especially in stormy economic waters such as those of these days, it is therefore essential to be at the short and medium term milestones that allow identifying the best path towards more ambitious goals.

  • Help identify and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the project and so identify viable alternatives strategies.

  • Setting benchmarks (a point of reference for a measurement) on the basis of which to evaluate future business decisions and results. Essentially place an imaginary rod with which we measure.

  • Provide basic information to build the financial structure, to provide so detailed information to quantify the net borrowing requirement. In addition, the business plan is essential to indicate the choice of funding sources needed to meet demand. All this serves as a basis for identifying financial strategies aimed at increasing the economic value of the company's capital.

  • Find funding in the form of credit (loans, mortgages etc ...) or venture capital (Private Equity, IPO, other loans). Every new venture capital needs to start without a business plan is unthinkable to present themselves to potential financiers.

  • Foster relationships with potential joint venture partners and with customers, suppliers and distributors.

The Business Plan is therefore a process and a key management document for all businesses. But there are so many possible areas, many possible companies and many possible variables that you can not propose a standard business plan template. What you can do is identify which characteristics are fundamental for its preparation and what we are the essential parts for a good preparation of the plan.
